    Removal of DATA Waiver Requirement for Opioid Use Disorder Prescriptions

    Notice from Nevada State Board of Pharmacy - On December 29, 2022, Congress signed into law with the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 (the Act), which eliminated the “DATA-Waiver Program.” The Act removes the federal requirement for practitioners obtain a Data-Waiver (X-waiver) to prescribe medications such as buprenorphine, a Schedule III controlled substance, for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD). On January 12, 2023, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced the immediate elimination of the X-Waiver for prescribing buprenorphine. The elimination of the X-waiver will increase the number of practitioners eligible to prescribe buprenorphine thereby increasing access to buprenorphine for those in need.

    Dentists back bill to raise insurance spending requirements in Nevada

    LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Nevada dentists are backing a bill that would raise the state's requirement for spending by insurance companies. State Sen. Heidi Seevers Gansert filed an insurance reform bill to raise the requirement for spending on patient care, the Nevada Dental Association says. Under the bill, at least 80% of the money that dental insurance companies collect from patients would have to be spent on dental care. The Dental Association says this change would match Nevada's existing requirement for spending on medical care.

    Dr. Linda Edgar Elected President-Elect

    Houston — In balloting Oct. 18 at the House of Delegates, Linda J. Edgar, D.D.S., was voted president-elect of the American Dental Association. Dr. Edgar, a general dentist from Federal Way, Washington, is the immediate past trustee of the ADA's 11th District. Dr. Edgar previously served as a delegate to the ADA House and as a member of the ADA Council on Dental Practice.
